Greetings workers of the world! As you know, I just re-send the best joke(s) I get from the emails I gather for that one week. If this is your first time to receive this, welcome to a new and (hopefully) entertaining addiction! Alan of La Canada, CA doesn't usually send me jokes but when he does, they seem to be pretty funny. Such is the case with today's pick of the week --- an historical event that left an indelible mark in US tradtion. Actually, Naomi of Burbank also sent this joke a few days later so she shares the credit for sending the joke. Dave of New York, contributed a video of a practical joke that brought me to tears. TGIF people!

Mayonnaise Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been
the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But
as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an
iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever The people of Mexico,
who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery,
were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared
a National Day of Mourning, which they The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo. WHAT??!!!! You expected something educational? TGIF People! |

Mini-Blog: Quite an Eventful Week Saturday was the "Day of a Thousand Volunteers." I was among a handful of civic minded people in the Pasadena area who have been planning for weeks to get the community together and fix 2 run down public schools.. It was a beautiful site to see hundreds of students and old foggies like me pitching in. People were painting walls, cutting overgrown weeds, painting murals. I was an unofficial photographer and a designated messenger/driver of donations from Starbucks, Panda Express and Green Street Restaurant. I got one unexpected compliment when I bumped into an elderly gentleman who was among the wall painters. In our conversation he said he had heard of my company WYNK Marketing: "In fact, I know them very well" he bragged. "They do a great job with logos, newsletters, websites, ..." I was surprised. Do I even know this guy? Well, it turns out, he was a Board Member of the Convalescent Aid Society --- one of our non-profit clients. * * * * Do you remember a few weeks ago when I asked your help determining which university my son Josh should attend? Last Monday was the day he had to make a decision. Sunday night we had weighed all the options and it was down to 3 schools. He didn't even consider UCLA, UC Berkley, Occidental, or Wheaton. It was USC, Brown or Pomona. Athough all three offered him a sizable scholarship grant, the final decision was based on where he felt he could grow the most. I am not at liberty to say yet (his request) what that final choice was but needless to say we gave a sigh of relief when he made it. There were prayers, weeping and hugs. Boy! It's tough being a parent! No one could sleep that night. We knew we were counting the days when our little boy would be leaving home for good. We realized that when he returns from this journey, this boy will return a MAN. My Mom's birthday also passed unnoticed. I was late in greeting her a happy birthday. I haven't heard from her since --- perhaps she's just too busy or she's upset. Changes in the TGIF format If you are one of the regulars of this TGIF Joke newsletter, you probably noticed that I've had less and less time to devote to this little "monster of a newsletter" which I created some 3 years ago. I've tried to pass on some of the responsibilities to some people but that didn't work. I haven't had the time to post the contributors. I haven't had time to post the many feedback. I haven't had time to congratulate the winners personally. Too many duties and too little time. I still enjoy posting the best jokes of the week but I've gotten involved with too many activities and I need to prioritize work with "play." So starting this week this email will be a bit shorter. I will only have a single joke of the week and perhaps a video of the week. I hope this new format will still achieve my original intentions --- to reward all you hard working citizens of the world with a moment of laughter. TGIF people!
